Batik painting comes from the East. It’s textile painting made with some specific techniques. Special batic traits are the liveliness of colours but also the capability of viewing artworks from both sides.
The technique of craquelure (the result from wax masking) is the one that usually characterizes batik and gives its uniqueness. It is however only one of it's specific traits.
